①   三重吉と濱の墓碑 

昭和23年、13回忌にあたり、鈴木家菩提寺の長遠寺(じょうおんじ)に建立。「三重吉永眠の地」と生前自書したものが刻まれている。毎年6月の命日には、三重吉忌が営まれている。中区大手町3-10-6
 

①Memorial Headstone for Miekichi and His Wife Hama

A headstone was erected next to Suzuki family’s grave in 1948 at Jyo-onji Temple.

It has the inscription “Miekichi’s final resting place – for Miekichi and Hama.” written by Miekichi himself before his passing. An annual memorial service is held here every year in June.

②赤い鳥文学碑 

昭和39年6月(1964)建立。円鍔勝三氏の作。碑文に「私は永久に夢を持つ。 たゞ年少時のごとく、ために悩むこと浅きのみ」とある。平成28年(2016)に和英両文の説明板が設けられた。
相生橋と原爆ドームのあいだ、川沿い。
 

②A monument to the memory of Miekichi and Akai Tori was erected in 1964. The inscription written by Miekichi reads “I will forever dream, simply as I did in my boyhood, and therefore suffer only a little.” The monument was designed by Katsuzo Entsuba, a prominent sculptor. An introduction written in both Japanese and English was set up in 2016. 

Location: Near Atomic Bomb Dome close to Aioibashi Bridge.

 

 ③「夢に乗る」文学碑 

昭和30年(1955)建立。日本の子供に夢と希望を-という三重吉の願いを幻想的に表現した円鍔勝三氏の作。
中区基町、こども文化科学館前。
 

③Riding a Dream Monument 

It was erected in 1955 and was designed by Katsuzo Entsuba and symbolizes Miekichi’s wish in a to bring dream and hope for Japanese children. 

Location: In front of Hiroshima City Children’s Library, Moto-machi, Naka-ku.

 

④ 鈴木三重吉生誕の地碑 
Miekichi's birthplace monument

昭和63年(1988)建立。比治山大学教授吉田正浪氏作。
中区紙屋町、紙屋町交差点そば。エディオン本店東館の外壁。
 
④A memorial plate to indicate the birthplace of Miekichi was set up in 1988, located on the north side of the electronic shop Edion in Kamiya-cho, Hiroshima. It was designed by Masanami Yoshida, a professor of the Hijiyama University.

 

⑤山彦文学碑
昭和32年(1957)安芸太田町加計、吉水園の入口横に建立。三重吉は明治39年8月28日から9月4日まで園内にある親友加計正文氏の別邸吉水亭に泊まった。この滞在中に第二作「山彦」の構想が生まれた。
 文学碑には『山彦』の書き出し「城下見に行こ十三里、炭積んでゆこ十三里、と小唄に唄ふといふ十三里…」と、もう一人の親友、小宮豊隆の三重吉を慕う碑文が刻まれている。

⑤Yamabiko Monument
A monument to commemorate Miekichi’s novel “Yamabiko”(Echo) was erected in 1957 near the entrance of Yoshimizu Garden, Aki-ota Town. Miekichi stayed at a cottage inside the Garden owned by his close friend Masafumi Kake in 1906. Here he came up with an idea of a novel which became his second novel “Yamabiko.” The first sentence quoted from "Yamabiko" and a comment from his friend Toyotaka Komiya are inscribed on the monument.

⑥千鳥文学碑

昭和38年(1963)建立。
 明治38年(1905)失意の三重吉は心を癒すため能美島に渡った。
 碑文の「親のそばでは泣くにも泣けぬ、沖の小島へ行って泣く」は親友の加計正文氏に送った心境の一節である。
 島では、この下田家に寄寓し、新しいロマンが芽ばえ、処女作「千鳥」が生まれた。
 碑は当時の町長相野田敏之氏、俳人杉山赤富士氏の努力により建立された。

⑥Chidori Monument 
A monument commemorating Miekichi’s first novel “Chidori”(Plover) was set up in 1963 in Nōmishima Island. In 1905, the 25 years old Miekichi stayed here at Shimoda family’s house while he took a leave from Tokyo Imperial University. His romantic experience during the stay gave birth to his maiden work “Chidori” which was highly praised by the literary master Soseki Natsume.
